Here’s how it works!
Enter the Contest
From October 14, 2011 – January 31, 2012 you and your team are invited to enter the Act Out Loud contest to participate in three different activities that focus on stronger teen driver safety laws. After your team has completed the first two activities, your team will receive a toolkit to promote the final activity and National Youth Traffic Safety Month. All teams must enter online. Teams that complete all three activities will be eligible for the $10,000 grand prize.
How To Win
You and your team will compete in three different activities and will receive points based on school participation and project quality. Points will also be awarded to the teams whose entries are selected in the top 25 for each activity, and additional points will be given to the winner of each activity.

COLLECT POINTS: Teams earn points for participation and quality in each round of the contest. You are awarded points for the following:
- 1. Participation Points:
The percentage of participation is number of youth from high school that participated in that round based on the size of the team's high school (grades 9-12); advisors will submit signed verification of number of youth from their high school who participated.
2. Points awarded for project quality (for rounds 1 and 2) or quantity (for round 3): Top 25
Round 1: Safe-Tee shirt design: Judges’ panel will select the top 25 designs Round 2: Creative sign: Judges panel will select the top 25 designs Round 3: Facebook yearbook application: The top 25 schools with the most application downloads
Winner
Round 1: Safe-Tee shirt design: Top 25 tee shirt designs will be posted to a photo album hosted on the Act Out Loud Facebook page and the design with the most “likes” will be the winner Round 2: Creative sign: Top 25 creative sign designs will be posted to a photo album hosted on the Act Out Loud Facebook page. A judges’ panel will determine the winner. Round 3: Facebook yearbook application: Team with the most Facebook Yearbook application downloads will be the winner.
Round 1: SAFE-TEE Shirt Design Contest
- From February 13 – 17, 2012, teams will submit a t-shirt design that focuses on preventing the use of communication devices while driving and include the NYTSM cause ribbon, which can be found in the electronic toolkit at www.actoutloud.org. T-shirt designs must be uploaded to the Act Out Loud website by 11:59 pm ET on February 17, 2012 in order to be considered for this round of the contest. Voting for the winning design takes place between February 24 - 29, 2012 on the Act Out Loud Facebook page. The winning school will receive up to 500 t-shirts with the winning design.
Round 2: Creative Sign Contest
- From March 12–16, 2012 your team will design and display a creative sign at your school or in your community. The design for this round will focus on passenger restrictions and include the National Youth Traffic Safety Month (NYTSM) cause ribbon, which can be found in the electronic toolkit at www.actoutloud.org. You must upload a picture of your team’s sign to the Act Out Loud website by 11:59 pm ET on March 16, 2012 in order to be considered for this round of the contest. Voting for the winning sign takes place between March 23 - 27, 2012 on the Act Out Loud Facebook page. Schools that successfully complete rounds 1 and 2 will receive a toolkit to help them promote round 3 and National Youth Traffic Safety Month.
Round 3: Facebook Yearbook Application
- From April 2 – May 6, 2012 your team will participate and support the Act Out Loud Facebook Yearbook application. Team members will download the Act Out Loud Facebook application on their personal Facebook page and encourage their peers to do the same. Act Out Loud Teams must download the application to their Facebook pages by 11:59 PM ET on May 6, 2012 in order to be considered for this phase of the contest. The school that generates the largest number of Facebook applications will win this portion of the contest. After all three rounds, the team with the most points will receive the $10,000 grand prize. The winning team will be announced May 16, 2012. School participation is key, so we encourage you to get as many teens from your school involved as possible! Review the NYTSM toolkit and begin to Act Out Loud for safe teen driving!
